Photographer, Ted Petrochko, whose work was recently on display at Krave Café and Caterers, in Newton, NJ, brightens the gallery with his vibrant, unusual photos that he refers to as the “Abstract Expressionism of Rust”. Collage artist and painter, Linda Finkelstein, brings an element of intimacy to the gallery with her small, spontaneous pieces that revolve around her travels in Europe. Oil painter, Janet Howard-Fatta, embraces light, color and her love of nature to create landscapes from the Hudson Valley area. Andrea Rosenfeld’s jewelry is made of eco-friendly, natural stones and materials that are Reiki cleansed to enhance their healing. Martha Traill Schaeffer’s delicate necklaces and earrings embrace the world around us by using nature castings of sterling silver and earthy stones. An Artists Inspiration: Landscapes of Warwick’s Village and Town
The plein-air series I created in May is finally hanging in the library. I am getting lots of interesting feedback about the work. I still think about the ones that did not get painted. I would like to do one on the weekend of September 28th of the Farmers Market in action. That is the one thing that is really missing from this exhibit. The Farmers Market is part of the heart of this town.
Solo Exhibit at the Albert Wisner Public Library

Artists in the Parks at The Knickerbocker Ice Festival

The Knickerbocker Ice Festival, celebrates Rockland Lake’s history as the 19th century world’s ice-harvesting epicenter on January 29th and 30th, 2011 at Rockland Lake State Park in Congers, NY.
For the third year Artists in the Parks will be plein air painting and exhibiting at this event. These Artists will be bravely painting outdoors ,enduring the elements while capturing the essence of the landscape.

Hudson Valley Artist and AIP Vice President Bruce Thorn,e with awesome hat, painting at Rockland Lake in 2009.
In the 19th century painting outdoors gained its popularity. Just like Monet and Van Gogh, AiP members have to deal with paint freezing up on them in the cold. Luckily, now we have Columbia boots, hand warmers, portable easels, and squeezable paint tubes. “There is a mindfulness that happens when you look and feel and respond to the environment, being uncomfortable melts away and the process in front of you is all that is important.” stated Hudson Valley artist Janet Howard-Fatta.
The exhibit will be displayed in the main building at the north end of Rockland Lake. Some of the works will have been completed that weekend. A percentage of all the work sold will benefit the Palisades Interstate Park Conservancy, which Rockland Lake is a part of.
In just five years this community centered tribute to local history and art has become the largest special event in Rockland County, turning a sleepy Rockland Lake into a winter wonderland, and generating much needed tourism activity to the region.
Activities:
- See breathtaking eight block Knickerbocker Ice Sculptures by internationally recognized sculptors completed and ready for your People’s Choice vote by midday Saturday
- Venture down to the ruins of Knickerbocker Ice House #3 and see festival co-founder Robert Patalano’s 40 block sculpture “Blessing Our Sacred Waters”, his largest yet.

Art Journals at Collage Art Gallery
Four of my personal art journals will be part of a group exhibit at Collage Gallery in Warwick, NY, opening January 6th, 2011 6PM-8PM.
These little pocket art journals are 4” x 3.5″ and can fit in my back pocket. They are hand sewn together with a variety of papers. Every book and every page is unique. They were created in mixed media. You are welcome to pick them up and flip through them.
Collage opened its doors in October of 2010 and is located in Warwick, NY. Warwick is in the lower Hudson Valley, around 50 miles outside New York City.
What makes Collage unique is the fact that it is teamed up with Every Artist Together (E.A.T) and donates 30% of its profits to hunger. For instance this month E.A.T. will be making a donation to the Back Pack Snack Attack program. The Back Pack Snack Attack program provides back packs filled with food for children in need. These are children in our community who are on free or reduced fare meal plans through the school district and who very often don’t have enough to eat over the weekends when they are not in school. On Friday afternoon they receive a backpack to get them through the weekend, which they return on Monday morning.
Heide Moeller is proprietor and Artist Lisa Cullen is the Gallery Director. Both have a genuine enthusiasm and love of the work. Lisa Cullen stated” I WANT to connect people with art. When an artist pays a hanging fee they are making a contribution, to E.A.T., to the community and to the advancement of culture in Warwick.”
The gallery offers some fantastic paintings, photos, jewelry and more by its diverse local artists. Enjoy!
Collage is open Friday 4-8, Saturday 12-8, and Sunday 12-4, or by appointment. Collage is located at 24 Railroad Avenue. This exhibit will continue through the month of January.
Warwick Drawing Group 10th Anniversary Show
On Saturday, November 13, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the historic Seligmann Estate, Sugarloaf, the Warwick Artists Group will exhibit a salon-style drawing show, including paintings & sculptures, inspired by the figure.
This diverse group of artists has been working with a live nude model, in a non-instructional session once a week. These drawing sessions create opportunities for the creative growth of artists local to Orange County. This exhibit celebrates their experience. The exhibit also aims to nurture a love, understanding, and respect for life drawing. Drawing is exercise for artists; to hones our skills. French-Danish Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro, remarked It is only by drawing often, drawing everything, drawing incessantly, that one fine day you to your surprise that you have rendered something in its true character.”
This drawing group was began over 10 years ago back at the Doc Fry, Warwick Valley Community Center by a group of artists, including Frederick Franck Franck local Warwick Artist, author renaissance man,. ” Since then it has met in various locations, with different mediators. Vernon Artist, Musician Chris Brune has been a long-time leader in keeping the group meeting each week.
When asked what she liked most about drawing, local Vernon artist and singer songwriter, Laura Birdsong said, “I love the moment when it becomes evident that I’ve captured the essence of the model on paper.” For Heidi Lanino Bilezikian, local Warwick Artist “My favorite moment is arriving at the Seligman house to join such a special group of artists to share in the art of drawing.”
“This is a show that represents what the present moment has to offer.” said Janet Howard-Fatta co-coordinator, “showing up the drawing session is always a new experience because the variables are always shifting, such as different models, poses, and materials. When drawing, I am present. I feel the energy, the light, the sensibility in my own body and breath; then it begins with a mark on paper and really looking, not just with my eyes.” Frederick Franck sited ”drawing is the discipline by which I constantly discover the world.”
Drawing sessions take place every Wednesday mornings from 10am – 12PM at the Seligmann Studio or inspired by these drawings. The group is always open to new members, for more information in participating in drawing contact Janet Howard-Fatta at jhfatta@gmail.com.
