Warwick Drawing Group 10th Anniversary Show
On Saturday, November 13, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the historic Seligmann Estate, Sugarloaf, the Warwick Artists Group will exhibit a salon-style drawing show, including paintings & sculptures, inspired by the figure.
This diverse group of artists has been working with a live nude model, in a non-instructional session once a week. These drawing sessions create opportunities for the creative growth of artists local to Orange County. This exhibit celebrates their experience. The exhibit also aims to nurture a love, understanding, and respect for life drawing. Drawing is exercise for artists; to hones our skills. French-Danish Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro, remarked It is only by drawing often, drawing everything, drawing incessantly, that one fine day you to your surprise that you have rendered something in its true character.”
This drawing group was began over 10 years ago back at the Doc Fry, Warwick Valley Community Center by a group of artists, including Frederick Franck Franck local Warwick Artist, author renaissance man,. ” Since then it has met in various locations, with different mediators. Vernon Artist, Musician Chris Brune has been a long-time leader in keeping the group meeting each week.
When asked what she liked most about drawing, local Vernon artist and singer songwriter, Laura Birdsong said, “I love the moment when it becomes evident that I’ve captured the essence of the model on paper.” For Heidi Lanino Bilezikian, local Warwick Artist “My favorite moment is arriving at the Seligman house to join such a special group of artists to share in the art of drawing.”
“This is a show that represents what the present moment has to offer.” said Janet Howard-Fatta co-coordinator, “showing up the drawing session is always a new experience because the variables are always shifting, such as different models, poses, and materials. When drawing, I am present. I feel the energy, the light, the sensibility in my own body and breath; then it begins with a mark on paper and really looking, not just with my eyes.” Frederick Franck sited ”drawing is the discipline by which I constantly discover the world.”
