oil on board, 8 " x 10 ", Something told the Wild Geese

My son memorized this poem for his class, as a result, I memorized it too. Hearing him recite this is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. I had to do this painting, there was no choice. Here is the poem for you, enjoy!

Something Told the Wild Geese
by Rachel Field

Something told the wild geese
It was time to go,
Though the fields lay golden
Something whispered, "snow."

Leaves were green and stirring,
Berries, luster-glossed,
But beneath warm feathers
Something cautioned, "frost."

All the sagging orchards
Steamed with amber spices,
But each wild breast stiffened
At remembered ice.

Something told the wild geese
It was time to fly,
Summer sun was on their wings,
Winter in their cry.
